AUTOINST/iX Enhanced

AUTOINST can now perform a software installation option of "SUBSYS and
PowerPatch" in a single update. With this new option, you can install
new or updated subsystem products with operating system dependencies and
all patches for product dependent functionality.
New Software Installation Option
AUTOINST performs a new software installation option of "SUBSYS and
PowerPatch" (option 2 on the selection menu). This option allows you to
perform a software add-on and install patches in one single installation
operation. It provides greater capability when installing new or updated
subsystem products with operating system dependencies.
The new selection menu for AUTOINST is as follows:

Quick Installation of Subsystem Software
With MPE-Express 1 Based on MPE/iX Release 4.0, if you order new or
updated subsystem products you receive a SUBSYS tape and a PowerPatch
tape that includes all operating system dependencies. This allows you to
use the new or updated subsystem products shortly after their release.
MPE/iX Release 4.0 subsystem products with FOS dependencies can now be
installed without installing a new operating system.
System Update Steps Changed
Prior to the B.40.05 version of PowerPatch/iX, the AUTOINST process had
the following order:
1. Run AUTOINST to create a patched CSLT/STORE tape.
2. Manually restore files from the CSLT/STORE tape.
3. Perform an UPDATE with the CSLT/STORE tape.
\ \ \ Important Details \ Please Read Now there is a new order to this
process:
1. Run AUTOINST to merge
subsystem products and
operating system patches
and create the CSLT/STORE
tape.
2. Perform an UPDATE of the
system with the patched
CSLT/STORE.
3. Run AUTOINST a second time
to RESTORE the patched
STORE files and perform any
necessary cleanup of the
INSTALL.SYS group. When
running AUTOINST a second
time, you are asked if you
wish to continue. Answer
"yes," and AUTOINST will
restore files from the
CSLT/STORE tape to complete
the installation.
Software Installation Logging
All software changes made to a system are logged in the HPSWINFO.PUB.SYS
file. This enables you to track what software is currently on your
system. Each product, as it is installed, updates the HPSWINFO file with
product information (such as, product name, version, and installation
date). All operating system changes retrieved from the PowerPatch tape
are also logged in the HPSWINFO file, including the patch identifier and
the installation date.
