Micro Focus COBOL for UNIX, Getting Started

Contacting Micro Focus

If at any time you have any problems or feel you would like additional
technical information or advice, there are several sources.

You may find you can solve your problem by reading the release notes.

If not, and you obtained your COBOL system directly from Micro Focus,
contact us as described below.

If you obtained it from another source, such as an authorized
distributor, contact them for help first; if they are unable to help,
contact us as described below.

To contact Micro Focus, you can:

   * Telephone - see the section Talking to Micro Focus below.

   * Fax - see the section Fax Numbers below.

   * Write to the appropriate address, listed on the back cover of this
       book.

   * Put your query on a Bulletin Board - see the section Bulletin
       Boards below.

   * Use CompuServe - see the section Micro Focus Forum on CompuServe
       below.

   * Use our Info-Fax system - see the section Info-Fax System below.

However you contact us, please include the information listed in the

Talking to Micro Focus

If you have a technical problem, the Micro Focus Product Support group at
your nearest Micro Focus office will be pleased to help you. The
addresses and telephone numbers are on the back of this book.

In the USA, support for Micro Focus systems on UNIX is centralized in
Palo Alto, CA. All US timezones are covered.

   *   If you have Priority Support, call the Priority Support Hotline;
you get this number from your sales representative.

   * Otherwise, call UNIX Support on (415) 496-7132.

The following are some questions that Product Support may ask you when
you call. The better prepared you are to answer these questions, the
better Product Support can help you. But if you don't know all the
answers, or you think some are irrelevant to your problem, please call
with whatever information you have.

   * Your Micro Focus Maintenance ID number, also known as Software
       Support Identification Number (SSIN).

   * Your COBOL system's Product Reference Number (PRN). You can
       display this by entering either:

            cob -V

       or:

            cat $COBDIR/cobver

   * The product name and version number for all products that you
think may be causing a problem.

   * Your computer name and model.

   * Your operating system version number and details of any networking
       software you are using.

   * The relevant page reference in the books.

Bulletin Boards

Some Product Support teams operate a Bulletin Board Service. The purpose
of this service is:

   * to supplement the documentation. There are example programs,
hints and tips on programming using our products, press release
       information and guidance on conversion.

   * to provide useful public domain utilities and product
       demonstration programs.

   * to enable you to converse with Product Support. This may be for
       low priority queries, for example.

   * to enable you to transfer files quickly to and from Product
Support to help them solve your problem quickly.

   * to enable people to converse with each other. The Palo Alto
Bulletin Boards maintain several User Communication Forums called
Special Interest Groups (SIGS) for queries and discussions.

The telephone numbers of the Micro Focus Bulletin Boards are:
