Micro Focus COBOL System Reference, Volume 2

TMPDIR 

Enables you to set a different drive or path in which to store temporary
files.

Syntax: 

     TMPDIR=directory 
     export TMPDIR

Parameters: 

directory           is the location used by SORT for its temporary work
                    files.  If you do not specify a directory, the system
                    default directory will be used.
