COBOL/HP-UX Operating Guide for the Series 700 and 800

Overview

Most application programs will be written separately according to
individual requirements, but Forms-2 can automatically produce a powerful
user-oriented indexed data entry
and filing system maintained by use of the screen layouts (forms).

If you want to produce an automatic indexed filing system program and
then use it, carry out the procedures in the section Introduction, read
the sections "Initialization Phase" and "Work Phase" briefly and
then refer straight to the section "Index Program" before trying the
comprehensive sample run in the section "User Index Program Example" .

If you want to produce some screen layouts, carry out the procedures in
the section Introduction, read briefly the sections "Initialization
Phase" and "Work Phase" , and then do the comprehensive sample run
in the section "Forms-2 User Screen Generation Example" .

To gain a further understanding of the Forms-2 features and Forms-2
operation read the sections Introduction, "Initialization Phase" and
"Work Phase" in detail. The sections "Data Descriptions" , "The
Checkout Program" , "Screen Image File" and "Forms-2 User Screen
Generation Example" are descriptions of Forms-2 output file contents
and relate directly to optional features that you can use. Read these
sections if you require the features described.

It is recommended that, in any case, you run the demonstration programs
supplied with your version of Micro Focus COBOL before using Forms-2.
