Chapter 14  Callable File Handler 

Your COBOL system includes a file handler module, EXTFH. This file
handler is designed with an open architecture approach, allowing it to be
used independently of COBOL syntax for handling files of any COBOL
organization.  This allows you to create dynamic file processing tools,
as well as sophisticated database-type applications.
