Chapter 9  Library Routines (Call-by-Number) 

The run-time system supplied with this product has a library of routines 
available using the COBOL CALL statement.  These routines generally
supply features that cannot be accessed using COBOL syntax.  Those
routines which are accessed by calling a hexadecimal number are referred
to as call-by-number routines.
