COBOL/HP-UX Operating Guide for the Series 700 and 800
Chapter 4 Animating
Animator is a menu-driven tool for debugging your COBOL programs. It
displays your source code and your application in windows on the screen,
highlighting each line of the source as your program is executed. This
process is referred to as animating.
In addition to Animator, this COBOL system can provide a base Animator,
which does not contain all of the Animator's enhanced functionality, such
as windows. The base Animator has been supplied for users whose machines
may not meet Animator's memory requirements, but who still require a
simple but effective tool for debugging programs or who are using slow
serial terminals. See your Release Notes if you are unsure whether base
Animator has been supplied for your environment.
This chapter describes the complete set of functions in both the Animator
and base Animator. The term Animator can be taken to mean both the
Animators unless one or the other is specifically referenced.
