Long User-defined Names The Data General COBOL language allows you to specify data- names and procedure-names which are longer than 30 characters. Your COBOL system accepts such names if you set the DG system directive when you submit your source code. See your COBOL System Reference for details of the DG directive. However, only the first 30 characters are significant, and the cross reference listing and Animator functions handle only the first 30 characters.
