HP SPT/XL User's Manual: Analysis Software
Chapter 4 Program Tuning Example
This chapter gives an example of how you can use HP SPT/XL to diagnose
performance problems and tune an application program. It uses the same
Order Entry application used in the tutorial in chapter 3.
You will need to refer to chapter 3 for a detailed description of the
Order Entry application. You should also be familiar with the tutorial
in chapter 3 before continuing with this chapter.
Since the analysis here is designed for you to follow by reading along
rather than doing, instructions for every activity are not included.
However, the logfiles are included on the tape that came with the manual,
so you can examine the data if you choose.
For help with accessing a particular screen, look up the screen by name
in chapter 5.
For help with defining transactions and accessing logfiles, refer to
chapter 3.
In tuning the Order Entry program we will focus on two tasks:
* Checking for consistency in analyzing an individual transaction
* Identifying wait states and specific areas for optimization
