HP SPT/XL Messages
Warnings and error messages are listed in numeric order.
001 WARNING: Catalog and program versions do not match.
Action: The versions of the SPT catalog and the SPTA or SPT program
files do not match. (This may cause the program to format data
incorrectly or to abort.) Copy the catalogfile SPTCT000 from the
installation tape and retry the procedure. If the problem persists,
contact your Hewlett-Packard support representative for assistance.
002 WARNING: Missing message. Set: <number>. Message: <message>.
Action: A required message is missing from the HP SPT/XL catalog.
Verify that the SPT catalog and SPTA program file versions match. If
they don't match, copy the catalogfile SPTCT000 from the installation
tape and retry the procedure. If they do match or if the problem
persists, contact your Hewlett-Packard support representative for
assistance.
004 WARNING: Unknown record type found in logfile ignored.
Action: A record of unknown type was found in the logfile created during
data collection. Verify that the collection module and the analysis
module have matching version numbers. If the versions don't match,
contact your Hewlett-Packard support representative for assistance.
006 WARNING: No monitored procedures were called by application.
Action: The monitored program did not call any procedures that the
collection module was instructed to intercept during collection. (This
can happen when the monitored program is CPU-intensive and uses no system
services explicitly.) Since the entire program is analyzed as one
transaction, you cannot define transactions in this case. The displays
will be limited to Code File Sample Summary, Code File Sample Profile,
and Procedure Sample Profile.
007 WARNING: No samples were found.
Action: The monitored program spent very little time in application
code; therefore, no samples were taken during any instances of the
current transaction. In this case, the Code File Sample Summary, Code
File Sample Profile, and Procedure Sample Profile will not be available.
The other displays represent all of the time spent in the current
transaction.
008 WARNING: Logfile file limit has been reset. Analysis may abort.
Action: The file limit of the HP SPT/XL logfile has been reduced to a
point where the analysis module may not be able to complete its
processing. If the analysis module aborts after issuing this warning,
you can correct the problem with the following commands:

Where:
<logfile> is the HP SPT/XL logfile,
<eof> is the end-of-file displayed by the LISTF command,
<limit> is the file limit displayed by the LISTF command, and
<new limit> is the file limit of the new logfile.
The <new limit> should be at least 2.5 times the <eof> (end-of-file) of
the old HP SPT/XL logfile. The file limit of a logfile can be reduced if
the file is stored to tape and restored using compatibility mode
STORE/RESTORE (STORE with TRANSPORT option).

ERROR: File is not SPT logfile.
Action: The file specified at the logfile prompt does not have the
internal structure of an SPT logfile. Verify that you entered the
logfile name correctly and retry the procedure. If the problem persists,
contact your Hewlett-Packard support representative for assistance.

ERROR: Logfile not compatible with this version of the analyzer.
Action: The logfile that you specified cannot be read accurately by the
analyzer module. (The collection module used to create the logfile may
not be compatible with this analyzer module.) Verify the logfile name
and retry the procedure. If the message reappears, reinstall HP SPT/XL
and collect the data again. If the problem persists, contact your
Hewlett-Packard support representative for assistance.

ERROR: Intrinsic exit without matching entry record.
Action: The tracing records contain a record for the exit of a system
procedure, but they do not contain a matching entry record. Save the
logfile and contact your Hewlett-Packard support representative for
assistance.

ERROR: Intrinsic exit and entry records do not match.
Action: The tracing entry and exit records do not have matching
procedure types. Save the logfile and contact your Hewlett-Packard
support representative for assistance.

ERROR: No file for comparison was specified.
Action: No file for comparison could be located. Retry the procedure.
At the comparison file prompt, make sure that you enter the name of a
valid HP SPT/XL logfile.

ERROR: Unknown command.
Action: The response to the HP SPT/XL prompt contained invalid
characters. Reenter your response to the prompt; use function keys or
numeric responses whenever possible.

ERROR: Input should be a positive integer or function key.
Action: Reenter your response to the prompt; use function keys or
numeric responses as appropriate.

ERROR: Expiration date has passed.
Action: You are using a special test or demonstration version of HP
SPT/XL, and the trial period has expired. Contact your Hewlett-Packard
support representative for assistance.

ERROR: Error writing to list file, printing disabled.
Action: An error was encountered while writing to SPTLIST. Examine the
file "tombstone" to determine the problem. If you cannot locate and
correct the problem, contact your Hewlett-Packard support representative
for assistance.

ERROR: File of that name already exists.
Action: At the prompt, enter the name of a new file.

ERROR: File contains neither procedure trace or sample entries.
Action: The logfile does not contain any data about the execution of the
program. (This can happen if the program was idle for the entire
collection period.) Verify that the program being monitored is actually
performing work, and use the collection program to re-collect the data.
If the problem persists, contact your Hewlett-Packard support
representative for assistance.

ERROR: Unable to build internal file "filename".
Action: An error was encountered while the program was building the
internal file filename. Examine the file "tombstone" to determine the
problem. If you cannot locate and correct the problem, contact your
Hewlett-Packard support representative for assistance.

ERROR: No individual transaction was selected.
Action: There is no current or default transaction, and the request for
the user to enter a transaction number failed. Exit the analyzer and
rerun. If the problem persists, contact your Hewlett-Packard support
representative for assistance.

Action: You have chosen a code file for analysis in which HP SPT/XL
found no samples during any instance of the current transaction. Specify
a different code file and retry the procedure.
The displays showing sample profiles will not be available for this code

Action: The index number that you entered does not correspond to a
database listed.

Action: Internal HP SPT/XL pointers have become corrupted.
Exit and rerun the analyzer. If the problem occurs in displaying data,
attempt to restructure the logfile by redefining transactions. If the
problem persists, contact your Hewlett-Packard support representative for
assistance.

ERROR: This version of the analyzer not compatible with environment.
Action: This version of the analyzer module is not compatible with the
operating system version.
Contact your Hewlett-Packard support representative to obtain the correct
version of the analyzer.

ERROR: Analyzer must be run from HP SPT/XL shell program.
Action: The analyzer was run directly from the command interpreter
rather than from the HP SPT/XL shell. (The environment may not be
established correctly.)

CREATEPROCESS. Please see the MPE XL Intrinsics Reference Manual under
the CREATEPROCESS intrinsic for more information.
