How to Use Resource Manager

RESMGR can be used by choosing function labels or by entering commands.
If you are using a terminal that doesn't support function labels, you can
enter commands only.

Chapter 9, "Managing Shared Discs," and Chapter 10, "Resource Manager
Advanced Functions," describe the function labels and explain program
operation. You should read these chapters even if you plan to enter
commands. Chapter 11, "Resource Manager Commands," describes all RESMGR
commands; it assumes that you are already familiar with RESMGR concepts
and tasks.

Function Labels

If you use function labels, RESMGR displays prompts and messages to guide
you from one functional area to another, and to direct program tasks in
each area.

The function labels shown in the example in the previous section appear
for all users. If you have System Manager (SM) or Node Manager (NM)
capabilities, you will see three more labels, which are briefly explained
in the next section. These advanced functions are explained in detail in
Chapter 10, "Resource Manager Advanced Functions."

When you choose a function label to move to a function area, the labels
display the new function choices and that area's prompt appears. When
you choose a function label to do a task, prompts appear on the screen to
lead you through each step.

Commands

RESMGR's commands can be entered at the appropriate function area prompt.
For example, you can enter the CREATE command only at the DISC> prompt,
and the SHAREDISC command only at the SHARE> prompt. Table 11-1 lists
each command, its abbreviation, and the prompt at which it can be used.

You will need to use commands if the terminal you use to run the program
does not support function labels, or if you prefer to enter commands
rather than use the function labels. One advantage of entering commands
is that the SHARE STATUS command has greater abilities, so that you can
examine the status for groups and accounts, passwords, activity, devices,
and printer configuration.
