HP Resource Sharing for MPE/iX
License Problems
The following problems can occur when you use Resource Sharing if your
license information is incorrect.
NOTE Contact your Hewlett-Packard representative for help if you are
unable to use Resource Sharing.
Inadequate License
If the license information you entered is not adequate for your system,
you see a warning on your system console when you use Resource Sharing.
The warning tells you that the license does not authorize this system.
For example:
_____________________________________________________________________________

License Authorization Exceeded (NWO LC)
Product Component: Resource Sharing
Authorized for: Ser 950 Opt UA3
Current System: Ser 957
**> Please obtain the correct license authorization for your system.

_____________________________________________________________________________
In the example, the system being used is a Series 957, but the license
entered is for a Series 950.
Contact your Hewlett-Packard representative to obtain the correct
license.
Unknown System or Tier Options
If your system or option is unknown to Resource Sharing, but you entered
a valid license code, a message appears at run-time such as the
following:
__________________________________________________________________

Unknown Tier Option (NWO LC)
Tier Option: 540
**>System has been authorized for use under this license.
**>Please contact your HP representative immediately.

__________________________________________________________________
The code will be accepted and Resource Sharing will function properly.
Contact your Hewlett-Packard representative and provide them with the
information on the unrecognized tier or system option.
User-Based License Problems
If you have a user-based license, you see a message on the system console
when too many users try to connect. For example, if your system was
licensed for Resource Sharing with one 8-user license, you would see the
following message when a ninth user tries to connect:
_________________________________________________________________

License Authorization Exceeded (NWO LC)
Product Component: Resource Sharing
Authorized for: 8 Users
**> Attempted connection for user was not successful.
**> Please obtain the correct license authorization for
more users.

_________________________________________________________________
Additional users will not be allowed to connect until the number of
connections is below eight.
When PC workstation users restart their PCs without first deleting active
connections, the connections remain active until Network Services reaches
its Connection Assurance Timeout Interval. When the users try to connect
before the timeout period has expired, they are denied access.
If this happens, use the SHOWPCUSER and ABORTPCUSER commands to find and
delete the appropriate connections. Refer to the Network Services
manuals for information on the timeout value. Refer to Chapter 4 for
information on the SHOWPCUSER and ABORTPCUSER commands.
Using Temporary License Codes
Your Hewlett-Packard representative may give you a temporary license code
if:
* You do not have a software certificate.
* The license code does not authorize your system correctly.
* You are unable to use Resource Sharing.
Follow the instructions below to enter the code.
The example uses a sample code. Use the temporary license code that you
obtained from your Hewlett-Packard representative. The characters in the
code can be entered in upper or lowercase.
1. Run the License Control program by entering the following command
(you must have SM or OP capability):
NWOLC.PPC.SYS
The program displays a menu, and a message informing you of the
system type. For example:
_____________________________________________________________________________________

NWO License Control Utility(A.02.00) Copyright(c) Hewlett-Packard 1994

This system is a Series 957 (LC 102)

NWOLC - The following functions are available:

1) UPDATE License Authorization
2) REPORT on License Authorization History
3) EXIT this program

Please enter your choice:

_____________________________________________________________________________________
2. Enter 1 or Update at the prompt to update the license information.
The system prompts for the order number.
3. Press Return at each field until you see the prompt for the
license code as shown below:
Enter License Code:
4. Enter the temporary license code. For example:
Enter License Code: NRTU-0Q7G-8400-X9D0
The dashes in the license code are not required, although you may
enter them.
A message tells you that the license code was accepted and the
history file was updated. For example:
______________________________________________________________

This system is a Series 957 (LC 102)

The License Code was accepted. The history file has
been updated. (LC 100)

______________________________________________________________
5. Shut down your system, do a START NORECOVERY, and run RESMGR to
enable use of the temporary license code.
When you run RESMGR, a message appears on the system console
telling you that the license you have is temporary and the
expiration date of the license. For example:
_______________________________________________________________

Temporary License Authorization Successful. (NWO LC)
Product Component: Resource Sharing
Expires: 06/23/94

_______________________________________________________________
NOTE Do not attempt to connect a PC before seeing the license message on
the console.
The temporary license code authorizes your system for thirty (30) days
from the date the code was created by the Hewlett-Packard representative.
When you receive your permanent license code, delete the temporary code
and update the license information with the permanent code.
To delete the temporary code.
1. Log on as:
HELLO MANAGER.SYS
2. Run the license control program by entering the following command:
NWOLC.PPC.SYS;PARM=330
The following menu will appear:
