The Conversion Series 3 utility converts data files from Ryan McFarland
RM/COBOL format to HP Micro Focus COBOL/iX format.
Conversion Series 3 Documentation
The COBOL/HP-UX Compatibility Guide is generic to the Micro Focus COBOL/2
products. Therefore, all references in the manual are to the Micro Focus
COBOL/2 products rather than to HP Micro Focus COBOL/iX products.
References to Micro Focus COBOL/2 refer to HP Micro Focus COBOL/iX. The
manual refers to UNIX rather than to MPE/iX and all information
concerning UNIX applies to MPE/iX as well.
Conversion Series 3 Notes
* The COBOL/HP-UX Compatibility Guide states that convert3 cannot
process data fields whose definition includes a REDEFINES clause.
This version of convert3 can now process these fields, but the
fields are converted according to the first definition in the
saved file. This was implemented to allow ISAM files that contain
key definitions in redefined fields to be converted without
editing the source files. Therefore, include a REDEFINES
statement in a record if the area is larger than the original item
that is redefined.
No check is made on whether the record item containing the
REDEFINES statement is larger than the original item being
redefined. You must, therefore, avoid using a REDEFINES statement
in a record if the area it occupies is larger than the original
item being redefined.
