Serial Connect Command
The Serial Connect command appears under the Configure menu.
Figure 10-63. Serial Connect Command
The Serial Connect command sets the default connection specifications for
the File Connect Serial dialog box.
The default connection specifications permit HP LaserRX/MPE to establish
a serial link with a specific HP 3000 containing the logfiles you want to
access, and log you in to the target HP 3000 host. A link may be
established to a target HP 3000 host through intermediate HP 3000s as
required.
When you select the File Connect Serial command, HP LaserRX/MPE displays
the Connect Serial dialog box with the defaults you set using the Serial
Connect dialog box.
When you select the Configure Serial Connect command, HP LaserRX/MPE
displays the following dialog box.
Figure 10-64. Serial Connect Dialog Box
Use either the Host Logon or Command File option to establish the default
serial connection sequence.
* Port.
Specify through which port you are making a serial connection.
* Host Logon option.
* Enable (check) the Logon Host box to have HP LaserRX/MPE
log on to the host HP 3000.
If you want to use an existing serial connection, leave
this box blank. (Remember that only one application may
"own" a serial port at one time. If you establish a
connection through a terminal emulator, you must exit the
application before you attempt to use the connection with
HP LaserRX/MPE.)
* Hello.
You can enter a logon string up to 72 characters long in
the Hello edit box. Passwords are encrypted with "@".
This field is required if the Logon Host box is enabled and
ignored if the Logon Host box is blank.
* Command File.
The Command File option establishes a default basic serial command
file containing a set of commands to automatically establish a
connection with an HP 3000.
If you want to use the existing serial connection or if you have a
direct connection, make sure that this option is left blank. (Any
command file listed will be executed regardless of whether or not
Logon Host is enabled.)
* Click Save to use these settings as defaults for this and future
HP LaserRX/MPE sessions.
* Click OK to use these settings for this session only.
NOTE If the Host Logon box is enabled and a command file is specified,
HP LaserRX/MPE first executes the command file (to establish the HP
3000 connection) and then executes the logon string (to log on to
the HP 3000 after the connection is made). If a command file is
specified but does not exist, HP LaserRX/MPE displays an error
message indicating that it could not find the command file.
