New Graphs from a Single Draw Dialog Box.

Figure 3-2. New Available Graphs * Global Jobs & Sessions--shows the average number of interactive sessions and batch jobs that were logged on and busy (that is, consumed some CPU time) during the day. * Global Queue Depth--shows how many processes, on the average, were waiting on the four key system resources throughout the day. * Disc Space--shows how total disc capacity is being used over time. * Disc Free Space--shows how much free space is available over time. * Disc Space Users--shows who has been using permanent disc space. * Disc Space--Transient (MPE XL) and Disc Space--Virtual (MPE V)--concentrates on conditions where the system may be running out of swapping space and/or total disc space in the system domain. * Application Response States--shows the top five applications ranked by CPU usage and, selectively, individual application's components of response time. * Application Queue Depth--shows the top five applications ranked by the average number of processes queued for CPU, disc, memory, or impede and, selectively, individual application's average number of processes that are using or queued for CPU, disc, memory, or software locks and latches (impedes). * Application Resource Usage--shows the top five applications ranked by terminal transaction rates and, selectively, individual application's use of CPU and disc for each terminal transaction. Other New Features * Auto Scaling. The Global Jobs & Sessions graph and all the disc space graphs feature automatic scaling of the Y-Axis. Every time you draw one of these graphs, HP LaserRX/MPE looks at the data for the time period you specify and finds the highest incidence of all graphed variables. It then uses that point to establish the upper limit of the Y-Axis. * Record-and-playback (macro) feature. MS-DOS command line input of a playback file makes automation of periodic repetitive tasks, such as graph printing, possible. See Chapter 8 and Chapter 9 for more details. * Native language support for dates and times. * Export more textual application or process data than can be shown in an export window using the new Export Logfile command. * Enhanced expanded memory utilization allows more concurrent graphs and textual displays. * Enhanced Help facility offers both topical and context-sensitive help. To get topical help, click Help and then choose from the Help index. To get context-sensitive help, click Help and then either click on dialog box white space (to get help on the dialog box) or click on any user-enterable field (to get help on that field). * Windows 3.0 support for real, standard, and enhanced modes. * Black Background and Solid Lines options are available for graphs. * Encrypted passwords increase security. * A Status bar on the main window informs you of the status of the last operation performed. * TIFF file format supported in the Export Window (formerly Xport) command to facilitate HP LaserRX/MPE graphic input into many word processing packages. * The File Open function now has a Logfile Info option to report the type of data and date ranges contained in a local or remote logfile. * The new Print Reduction option improves print speed by reducing the printed output size by various percentages. * Both Application and Global graph choices are now contained in one Draw Graphs dialog box. * Either application or process textual data can now be zoomed from a global, disc space, or application graph. * Users who access logfiles over a LAN may now connect to up to 5 remote systems concurrently (four LAN and one serial, or five LAN).
