To Modify or Create the Services File
The services name data base file, (SERVICES.NET.SYS), associates official
service names and aliases with the port number and protocol the services
use. Reserved port numbers 0 through 255 are assigned by RFC 1340.
First check to see if a SERVICES.NET.SYS file already exists. If the
file already exists, verify that the line "telnet 23/tcp" is in the
file. If it is not, you can modify the SERVICES.NET.SYS file by simply
using your editor to add the entry to the file and saving your changed
file. When updating the file, note that a line must be in lower case and
cannot start with any spaces. Additionally, items are separated by any
number of blanks and/or tab characters. A pound sign (#) indicates that
a line is a comment.
If a SERVICES.NET.SYS file does not already exist, you will need to
create the file by copying the sample file, SERVSAMP.NET.SYS, to
SERVICES.NET.SYS. The current SERVSAMP file contains the line necessary
for the TELNET/iX Client. An example of a SERVSAMP.NET.SYS file is shown
in Figure 4.

NOTE It is critical that the service name (telnet) and protocol name
(tcp) be in lower case. If they are spelled in capital letters the
TELNET/iX Client will not run, and you may receive a no error
message.
