FTP Monitor Messages and Errors
The following messages and errors may be returned in the output of the
FTP monitor jobstream.
RPM Error Messages

If you receive the following message:
ARPA FTP SERVER: RPM ERROR: errnumber errortext
Refer to the NS3000/XL Error Messages Reference Manual for the meaning,
cause and action for the RPM error displayed.
FTP Monitor Errors and Messages.
The following lists informational messages followed by fatal error
messages.

MESSAGE HP ARPA File Transfer Protocol Monitor [A0002007] (C) Hewlett-Packard
Co. 1990 Ready and waiting for an FTP connection from a remote system
CAUSE The FTP monitor has just started up.
ACTION New FTP sessions may be started on remote (or local) systems and
connect to this system

MESSAGE New server created on MON, MAY 14, 1990, 5:26 PM; on pin 46.
CAUSE A new connection has been made to the MPE/iX system and a server
process has been created to service it.
ACTION None.

MESSAGE You have insufficient capabilities to execute the FTP monitor.
CAUSE The user who started the FTP monitor does not have NM and NA
capabilities.
ACTION If the user is allowed to start the monitor then give the user NM and
NA capabilities with the :ALTUSER command.

MESSAGE ARPA FTP SCP: Server has started. I am terminating.
CAUSE The remote user has successfully entered a USER command. This
process will terminate because a new process in the correct session
environment is now executing.
ACTION None.

MESSAGE ARPA FTP SCP: timed out waiting for SERVER to respond; killing child
& SERVER process; result from waiting: !
CAUSE The SCP (server create process) could not create the FTP server
session.
ACTION This can be caused by a very busy system. Try again. If the problem
persists submit an SR as documented in the NS3000/XL Operations and
Maintenance Manual.

MESSAGE ARPA SCP/SERVER received QUIT command. Terminating
CAUSE The remote user has sent a QUIT command before a successful USER
command has been received. This server process will go away because
it is no longer needed.
ACTION None.

MESSAGE ARPA FTP Error sending remotehelp info
CAUSE An SCP (server create process) or server cannot reply to the HELP
command.
ACTION Submit an SR. (See the NS3000/XL Operations and Maintenance Manual.)

MESSAGE ARPA FTP S_INIT: unable to open the FTPC000.ARPA.SYS.
CAUSE The FTP catalog FTP nnnn.ARPA.SYS cannot be opened.
ACTION Check for a missing catalog. If it exits, check for a bad format, or
bad access control on the catalog.

CAUSE There is a problem getting a catalog message.
ACTION Check for a missing catalog. If it exists, check for a bad format,
or bad access control on the catalog. Check for a missing message.

MESSAGE ARPA FTP Error reading from FTPCAT during initialization. FTP_MSG
Result = !
CAUSE There is a problem getting a catalog message.
ACTION Check for a missing catalog. If it exists, check for a bad format,
or bad access control on the catalog. Check for a missing message.
If there is a missing message, submit an SR. (See the NS3000/XL
Operations and Maintenance Manual.)

MESSAGE ARPA FTP get_VC: unable to get the vc from my creator. !
CAUSE A NETIPC error occurred during an IPCGET call.
ACTION This message is followed by the NETIPC (SOCKERR) error message. (See
the NS3000/XL Error Messages Reference Manual for the cause/action.)

MESSAGE ARPA FTP server unable to send a message to his creator. Result = !
CAUSE The server was not able to send a message.
ACTION If the problem is reproducible, submit an SR. (See the NS3000/XL
Operation and Maintenance Manual).

MESSAGE ARPA FTP Error: Incorrect initiation of FTPSRVR. INFO =!
CAUSE The most likely cause is the FTPSRVR was executed from the command
line. Or there is a version mismatch between the FTPMON and FTPSRVR
files.
ACTION Do not start the FTPSRVR from the command line. Re-install FTP/XL.

MESSAGE ARPA FTP Monitor FATAL ERROR ipccreate FTP call socket ADDRESS
CURRENTLY IN USE BY ANOTHER SOCKET. (SOCKERR 106)
CAUSE The FTPMON.ARPA.SYS program is already executing on this system.
Only one of these processes may execute at a time.
ACTION None.

MESSAGE ARPA FTP Monitor Fatal Error: !
CAUSE The FTP monitor has died.
ACTION The next line of the message contains the cause of the fatal error.
The most likely cause is a resource constraint.

MESSAGE ARPA FTP Monitor NON Fatal Error: !
CAUSE The FTP monitor has received an error that has probably caused the
current connection attempt to be aborted.
ACTION The next line will contain the cause of this error. The most likely
cause is a resource constraint.

MESSAGE ARPA FTP Server session is dying. Reason follows: !
CAUSE An FTP server session has received an irrecoverable error.
ACTION This message will be followed by a NETIPC (SOCKERR), error message.
Refer to the NS3000/XL Error Messages Reference Manual for the
cause/action for the SOCKERR displayed.
Two possible errors are listed below:
ARPA FTP Server session is dying. Reason follows: CONNECTION FAILURE
DETECTED. (SOCKERR 67)
CAUSE: The connection to the remote system has suddenly died. This
can be caused by either the local or remote network going down, or by
network problems (ie., retransmission failures, gateway problems,
etc).
ACTION: If the problem persists consult the NS3000/XL Operations and
Maintenance Manual.
RECEIVED A GRACEFUL RELEASE OF THE CONNECTION. (SOCKERR 68)
CAUSE: This message is caused by the remote FTP closing the
connection without sending a QUIT command. The most likely reason
for this is when a user types CTRL-C from a UNIX FTP user program.
ACTION: None.
