HP DeskManager Customization
Chapter 4 Tailoring User Profiles
Every user has the ability to customize the interface that HP Desk
presents to them to suit their needs or preferences. By default, all
users are configured with a standard User Profile containing values set
by Hewlett-Packard or by you. Information on how a user can change their
own User Profile is provided in the manual HP DeskManager User Reference
Guide. If you wish, you can restrict users' access to their Profiles by
installing an abbreviation or a script for the PROFILE command (see
Chapter 8 and Chapter 9 ).
This section summarizes the features of a User Profile, so you can:
* Plan your customization system-wide.
* Perform customization for individual users.
Many features of the User Profile, though minor in themselves, can
significantly affect HP Desk's ease of use, ease of learning,
integration, response time, as so on. Some of these advantages are not
compatible with each other, and therefore a trade-off will need to be
made. For example, displaying Help information before starting forms
processing will aid new or inexperienced users but will slow the response
time. The effect of some changes and their suitability for your
installation may only become apparent through experimentation.
Changes to some features will only be possible on systems that are set up
appropriately (with suitable printer, applications and so on). If users
are to tailor their own Profiles, you may need to make this information
available to them.
