HP Menu Intrinsics
If you already have HP Menu, you may recognize a set of intrinsics
provided with HP Desk as HP Menu Intrinsics. Intrinsics are coded
routines which have been written for you to call up and use to perform
certain tasks. They will integrate some established Hewlett-Packard
products such as HP EasyChart and HP Draw into HP Desk and can also be
used in applications to get information from HP Desk. However, if you do
not already use these intrinsics, we recommend you use the other methods
described in Chapter 12 of this manual to get the information you
need.
The HP Menu Intrinsics fall into four categories, those concerning:
* The Scratchpad Area
This is used for applications to communicate with each other, or
to store application dependent information. An application can
perform any operation on an item in the scratchpad area as long as
the value can be expressed as 16-bit words.
* User Capabilities and Name
Applications can find a user's name and capabilities using this.
* The Current Object
The current object refers to a value or values which can be passed
from one application to another. The values can be file names or
object names (an object is an item within a file).
* Status
From within an application you can find out whether that
application was invoked by HP Desk or HP Menu. If the application
was invoked by HP Desk it can use the current object stored by HP
Desk.
