HP DeskManager Administration

Starting Up HP Desk

You start up HP Desk using the MAILON command. This command:

   * Starts the Supervisor if it is not already running.

   * Requests the Supervisor to start up the Mailroom, the Transport
Manager and the Master Trucks, allows users to log on to HP Desk,
and enables Slave Truck sessions to become established.

Once the Supervisor is running, it starts up the processes under it that
have been requested.

If you have a job stream or a User Defined Command (UDC) to start up your
HP 3000, you may wish to include the appropriate HP Desk start up
commands. This ensures that HP Desk is always available.

Full details of the MAILON command and the commands which start up the
individual components of HP Desk are in Chapter 20 .

Data Communication Availability

If your HP Desk system is part of a larger network, your computer should
be available whenever other machines are scheduled to transmit messages
to you and receive messages from you.

To ensure that messages are received, you should enable the Slave Trucks
using the MAILSLAVEON command.

To ensure that you can transmit messages, you should enable the Transport
System using the MAILMANON command. See Chapter 20 for further
details.

You should also ensure that your network software is running (using
NETCONTROL and NSCONTROL) and if you are connecting to systems via DS you
should also ensure that the DS lines are open by issuing the DSCONTROL
OPEN command. You might find it useful to use the COMP option when a
line is open to utilize DS data compression.
