HP DeskManager Administration

The PasswordEditor (Passedit)

Utility, Passedit.

Use Passedit to:

   *   Record passwords.

passwords it contains are for the HPOFFICE account, selected groups and
users within that account, the Local and Global Databases and the Native
Database (if one is installed.)

The Passedit is also used to list the existing passwords and change them
when necessary. Chapter 7 details the steps you take to protect the
HP Desk program and data files. For details of how to change database
passwords see Chapter 18 .

          Passedit Main Menu

Select an option either by typing the appropriate number and pressing
Return or by pressing the appropriate function key.

Select from the following options:

   * Use Option 1 to set a password on the HPOFFICE account, various
       associated groups and users, and the Local and Global Databases.

   * Use Option 2 to change a password on any of the above.

   * Use Option 3 to list all of the passwords which have been set
       using Passedit.

Running Passedit in Batch

Passedit can run in batch mode. To do this, run Passedit with a PARM
value and INFO string, where the PARM value equates to the number of the
item as presented in the Passedit menu and the INFO string contains the
password. For PARM values see Modifying Passwords later in this section.
For example:

     RUN PASSEDIT.HPMAIL.SYS;LIB=G;PARM=5;INFO="SECRET"

This will change the HPMAIL password to SECRET. The maximum length of the
password is 8-characters.

NOTE Passedit discriminates between upper and lower case. This means it considers SECRET, Secret and secret to be three different passwords. To run the program in batch, the program must be run as MGR.HPOFFICE,MAILDB
Initializing Passwords Use Passedit Option 1 to initialize passwords for the: * HPOFFICE account. * Groups within the HPOFFICE account. * Users within the HPOFFICE account. * Local Databases. * Global Databases. This option is used when HP Desk is first installed because once one password is changed, all of the others are reset to their initial default values.
NOTE Only use this option if you want to change all of the passwords which can be set using Passedit. To change only one or two passwords and retain the others currently set, it is better to use Modify Passwords, (Option 2).
To initialize passwords type in the new password, and then type it in again to confirm it. If you type in the same password both times, a message appears telling you that the password has been changed successfully. If you type in a different password the second time, perhaps because of a typing mistake, you are told that the two passwords do not match and you must start again. If you do not want to set a password for a particular account, group, or user, press Return. You are then asked to confirm that you want a blank password. _______________________________________________________________________________ | | | | | PASSWORD EDITOR (B.05.00) Password Initialization 06/09/92 1341 | | | | Please note that this option resets all passwords to their initial | | default values.
