HP DeskManager Administration

Administrator Capabilities

The four types of Administrator capabilities outlined here are:

   *   MPE user MGR.HPOFFICE.

   *   System Administrator.

   *   Local Administrator.

   *   Network Administrator.

(Security considerations and capabilities are covered in more detail in
Chapter 7 ).

Full Administrator Capabilities

The MPE user MGR.HPOFFICE,MAILDB has full HP Desk administration
capability and power to pass this capability on to HP Desk users. This
is the most powerful of the HP Desk Administrator capabilities.

Running the HP Desk Configurator with Full Capabilities

You run the Configurator either from MPE or HP Desk depending on the task
you want to perform.

From MPE You are presented with the Main Menu, from which you
                    can access all the configuration options, and the
                    screens from which you can create and expand the HP
                    Desk databases.

From HP Desk You are taken straight to the Configuration Main
                    Menu, from which you can access all configuration
                    options--but no database options.

Running the Configurator from another computer:

Use the MPE DSLINE command to open the required line. Add the parameter
LINEBUF=1024 if the DS device has been configured with a LINEBUF value of
less than 1024. This sets the value to correspond to the PREFERRED
BUFFER SIZE when you configure the input (INP) device. For example,
DSLINE CHICAGO;LINEBUF=1024. When you access a remote computer through
another computer, you repeat this command using the correct line
identifier for each computer.

System Administrator Capabilities

The HP Desk System Administrator has access to all configuration options.

A System Administrator can only run the Configurator from within HP Desk.
The first screen that is displayed is the Configuration Main Menu
(full-version).

Local Administrator Capabilities

A Local Administrator has access to the user configuration options, which
include configuring HP Desk users and, optionally, Resource Classes and
Resources for HP Schedule. A Local Administrators can perform the
options only for those capability groups of which they are a member.

A Local Administrator can only run the Configurator from within HP Desk.
The first menu accessed is the shortened version of the Configuration
Menu.

Network Administrator Capabilities

A Network Administrator only has access to the Configurator's Network
Menu. A Network Administrator configures routes to other computers and
record information about each link.

A Network Administrator can only run the Configurator from within HP
Desk. The first screen displayed is the Network Menu.
