HP OpenMail Gateways
Information on HP OpenMail Gateways is fully covered in Chapter 12 .
The section describes how to:
* Configure the HP OpenMail Gateway on the HP 3000.
* Start, stop and check the status of the HP OpenMail Gateway.
* View the log file created by the HP OpenMail Gateway.
Further information about HP OpenMail can be found in the OpenMail
Technical Guide.
Configuring the Gateway on the HP 3000
Before you configure the Gateway on your system, choose a name and
password for the Gateway. The name and password can both be up to eight
characters long. The password is case-sensitive, so make sure that you
type it the same way every time.
Configuring the Gateway on the HP 3000 can be split into three areas:
* Configuring the Gateway so that it can use HP Desk Intrinsics to
access the HP Desk system.
* Configuring the HP OpenMail Gateway itself on the HP 3000. A
special configuration screen is provided to allow you to enter the
necessary information.
* Configuring locations and sublocations for HP OpenMail mailnodes
in the HP Desk Directory, then configuring a route so that
messages for HP OpenMail users are passed to that Gateway.

Configuring Locations, Sublocations and Routes
You need to configure a location, a route and optionally, a sublocation
on the Gateway system so that messages for HP OpenMail users are routed
through the Gateway on the HP 3000 to the HP Desk Gateway on the HP 9000.
You can do this in two ways:
* You can configure a location on the Location Information screen to
be used specifically for HP OpenMail. You must then configure the
location as a hierarchically addressed location. If you do this
you only have to specify the location on the Route Information
screen along with the name you chose for the Gateway. All
messages that have the location you specified are routed to the HP
OpenMail Gateway.
* You can configure locations and sublocations for HP OpenMail using
the Location Information screen and the Sublocation Information
screen. You must then configure a route for each location and
sublocation on the Route Information screen along with the name
you chose for the Gateway.
NOTE You must also configure a Default User for the Gateway. Add the
Default User on the Local Control Data Information screen. You
access this menu from the System Menu. The Default User will
receive any mail that cannot be delivered through the Gateway. You
can give General Delivery as the Default User if you want all
undeliverable mail to be sent to the same place.
HP OpenMail Gateway Operation
Commands are provided to allow you to start, stop and check the status of
the HP OpenMail Gateway. The commands are:
* MAILOMGATEON, which starts the Gateway.
* MAILOMGATEOFF, which stops the Gateway.
* MAILSTATUS, which now displays the status of the Gateway along
with the other components of your HP Desk system.
The HP OpenMail Log Files
A log file is generated automatically to help you or your Hewlett-Packard
representative solve any problems on the Gateway. The log file contains
details of all events, including errors. The log file is named:
MMGRLOG.MMGRDATA.HPOFFICE
The file is a circular log file that contains 496 records. Note that you
can only examine the contents of the log file when the HP OpenMail
Gateway has been stopped. You should examine the log file if you have
any problems with the Gateway. For example, if the status of the Gateway
is shown as aborted when you run the MAILSTATUS command.
