HP DeskManager Administration

Chapter 6 Planning an HP Desk Network

In the previous chapter we looked at planning a single HP Desk
configuration. In this chapter we consider planning a network of HP Desk
systems.

A key consideration is the need for co-operation and co-ordination to
ensure that each site's needs are considered when planning the network.
A single HP Desk Administrator could be assigned the responsibility of
co-ordinating the network, or HP Desk Administrators from all of the
sites may work together as a team.

The examples, in this chapter, use the Pharaoh Company to illustrate the
key considerations when building a HP Desk network.

An HP Desk Administrator at the Pharaoh Company's Corporate Headquarters
in New York has been assigned the role of Network Co-ordinator.

To co-ordinate the network they need to consider:

   *   The overall network organization.

   * The naming convention for the different levels of the network
       organization.

   * The traffic routing policy for the network.

   * The message addressing system for the network.

   * Special facilities to be provided by individual computers.
