HP DeskManager Administration

An Example Company

In this chapter, an example company plans the implementation of a local
HP Desk system. Use this chapter to familiarize yourself with some of
the considerations involved in planning, if you are implementing a local
HP Desk system for the first time. The example company is used
throughout the manual to illustrate various topics.

The Pharaoh Company is a multi-national pharmaceutical company. It
comprises of two divisions in New York State:

Corporate Headquarters Leads business. Makes strategic business
                          decisions. Co-ordinates with other divisions.

Factory division Manufactures prescription drugs and reports to
                          Corporate Headquarters.

At present, both divisions share a mid range HP 3000 which is used for
administrative purposes and inventory control.

The Pharaoh Company is considering installing HP Desk at each of their
divisions and has decided to run a pilot system on the New York computer.

Implementation of the pilot system involves four departments, chosen
because the people use computers and are seen as less resilient to
change.

Administration Corporate Headquarters

Legal Corporate Headquarters

Production Control Manufacturing Division

Purchasing Manufacturing Division

If the pilot is a success, other departments will be trained and the
system will be expanded, it is envisaged that the system will expand to
serve all of the departments in both divisions.

Pharaoh also has a plan to buy an HP 3000 for the Manufacturing Division
at a later date. When this happens the manufacturing site will have its
own HP Desk system.
