HP DeskManager Administration
HP Desk Transport Systems
HP Desk moves mail through the network using either the Distributed
Services (DS) or the Network Services (NS) data communications.
NOTE The connection between an HP Desk B.05.00 system and earlier
versions can only be made through DS connections.
The components of a HP DeskManager system are:
Transport Manager This sorts out the mail that is to be sent to other
computers and then ensures that it is transmitted.
This process runs under the Supervisor all the time
the transport system is enabled.
Master Trucks These processes transfers messages from one machine
to another. With HP Desk the maximum number of
Master Trucks that may run at one time is 36.
Slave Trucks Slave Trucks are the processes that run on remote
systems, which accept the mail from Master Trucks
when transmission lines are available. The Master
Truck activates a Slave truck on the remote
computer. Once this is completed, the Master Truck
passes mail across to the Slave truck. When all the
messages are transmitted the Master Truck informs
the Slave truck that transmission is complete and
the line is shut down.
If the mail addresses users on the receiving
computer, the Slave Truck then activates the
Mailroom which delivers them locally. If the mail
is to be forwarded to another remote computer, the
Slave Truck activates the Transport Manager to
handle the onward routing of the mail.
Slave Trucks that run DS are referred to as DS Slave
Trucks. Slave Trucks that run NS are referred to as
NS Slave Trucks.
