HP DeskManager Administration
Restrictions onEnd Use
You access HP Desk from terminals or personal computers connected to the
HP 3000 on which HP Desk is installed. Certain restrictions on the use
of HP Desk are imposed by the device from which it is accessed. For full
details of the supported terminals, see the HP Desk Datasheet.
Other applications that may be integrated with HP Desk, such as HP Word,
may have additional display or memory requirements that restrict the
range of supported devices. These requirements may affect whether you
can run an application from within HP Desk or whether you can display HP
Desk messages that contain files created by those applications.
At a Terminal
The full facilities of HP Desk are available to users of block-mode
terminals with conventional function keys. Users of more basic models,
and of any third party terminal that doesn't emulate a Hewlett-Packard
terminal, have a restricted set of facilities available. They are unable
to have full screen editing, manipulate VPLUS/3000 forms, use customized
function keys or the Suspend key.
With terminals connected to a host HP 3000 via an X.25 network, users are
denied access to any application that, though normally run under HP Desk,
is not supported over PAD devices. For example, HP Slate and TDP are not
supported.
At a Personal Computer
There are no restrictions imposed on the use of HP Desk from a
Hewlett-Packard or IBM personal computer operating in terminal mode.
Accessing HP Desk from a Hewlett-Packard or IBM personal computer using
the NewWave Mail or AdvanceMail messaging applications is described in
the section "AdvanceMail and NewWave Mail Users" .
At a Printer
HP Desk can use any spooled printer supported by MPE; slave printers are
not supported. However, some office applications that can be accessed
from HP Desk, such as HP Slate or HP Draw, must print to particular types
of spooled printer. This restriction applies equally to the printing of
HP Desk messages that contain files created by these applications.
