AdvanceMail and NewWave Mail Users

Hewlett-Packard's personal computer messaging applications--NewWave Mail
and AdvanceMail--interface to HP Desk from Hewlett-Packard Vectra
personal computers, or from IBM personal computers.

Users of these products may exchange messages with any other users of HP
Desk--whether they are AdvanceMail users, NewWave Mail users, HP Desk
users, or connected users of another vendor's electronic mail system.

For example, an AdvanceMail user signs on to AdvanceMail and then
downloads their messages. The AdvanceMail user does not need to sign on
to HP Desk to access their mail, but they must have a HP Desk account set
up.

Since these users are, in practice, HP Desk users, they must be
registered in the HP Desk Directory. They must know their registered
user name in order to sign on to both the personal computer application
and HP Desk. They also have HP Desk passwords which they can set or
change within the personal computer application. Administrators have the
ability to reset a password should a user forget it.

Being registered HP Desk users, they may use their personal computer in
terminal mode to sign on to HP Desk without running any personal computer
application.

These applications offer particular advantages for some HP Desk
installations, such as reduced connection time. The ability to prepare
and read mail on the personal computer allows work to be off-loaded from
a busy HP 3000, and also helps minimize the amount of time that a remote
personal computer must be connected.

More information on the use of AdvanceMail and NewWave Mail is found in
the appropriate application's documentation.
