Creating Lists Using HP ListKeeper
You can use HP ListKeeper (HP List) within HP Desk to create and edit,
edit or print lists. Once you have created a list containing the
necessary name and address information you can also convert HP List items
to HP Desk Distribution Lists.
To create a list using HP List within HP Desk:
1. At the Workarea > or MESSAGE > prompt, type:
CREATE HPLIST Return
HP List automatically gives the list a temporary name, which you
cannot change.
2. Type headings for the fields, widths for the fields and specify T
for alphanumeric fields and N for numeric fields.
3. Press Perform Create to create the list.
4. Type the information for each entry in your list.
5. Press HPLIST Main twice and then press Exit to HPDESK when you
have finished.
6. Type a name for the list and press Return at the Subject: prompt.
Further Information
* When you exit HP List you are returned to the HP Desk area you
were using.
* You can also EDIT HP List items within HP Desk.
* HP Desk automatically prints HP List items within HP Desk from HP
List. If you want HP List items printed as normal HP Desk prints
use the PROFILE command. See "Customizing Screen and Print
Displays" .
* You can also go directly to HP List from HP Desk by typing HPLIST
Return at any prompt. You can then copy the HP List items you
create this way into HP Desk. See "Copying Items into and out of
HP Desk" .
* While you are working on a list within HP Desk you cannot:
* CREATE another list
* COPY another list
* use FIND followed by COLLECT
* use SUMMARIZE.

ListKeeper User's Guide.
To convert an HP List item:
You can convert lists created in HP List into other types of document.
1. At the Workarea > prompt, type CONVERT followed by the number or
subject of the item. For example:
Workarea > CONVERT 2 Return
2. HP Desk lists the different types of item that you can convert HP
List items to. Type the number for the option you want and press
Return
To prepare a Distribution List using HP List within HP Desk:
If you create HP List items that contain the necessary name and address
information you can convert them to HP Desk Distribution Lists.
1. At the Workarea > or MESSAGE > prompt, type CREATE HPLIST Return
2. Type a heading for the surname field and give it a a width of 50
characters and type T for text in the last column. You then need
to do the same thing for the first name field and middle name
field.
3. Type a heading for the HP Desk address location field and give it
a width of 6 characters and type T for text in the last column.
You then need to do the same for the sublocation field, but giving
it a width of 2.
4. Create any other fields that you want to use, then press Perform
Create to create the list.
5. Type the name and address information for each person on your
list. You can type any alphanumeric character, as well as spaces
and slashes (/).
6. Press HPLIST Main twice and then press Exit to HPDESK when you
have finished.
7. Type a name for the list and press Return at the Subject: prompt.
To convert an HP List item to a Distribution
List:
1. At the Workarea > prompt, type CONVERT followed by the number or
subject of the item. For example:
Workarea > CONVERT 2 Return
2. HP Desk lists the different types of item that you can convert HP
List items to. Type the number for the Distribution List option
and press Return
3. Type the relevant field headings in response to the HP Desk
prompts. If you can't remember the headings you gave a field,
type ? Return and HP Desk lists all the field names. Type the
number of the field that you want and press Return. Type // to
cancel the conversion.
Further Information
* You can READ your new Distribution List.
* You can COPY or MOVE the new Distribution List to your List Area.
* You can SEND a message to your new Distribution List.
* Once you have converted an HP List item into an HP Desk
Distribution List you cannot convert it back to an HP List file.
