Writing Text Documents

An HP Deskmessage or item will always contain some text. When you type a
message after the Text: prompt inside an item or message, you are
creating a Text document. If your terminal does not support the normal
editing facilities, HP Desk provides TDP/3000 editing functions, or, if
TDP is not available, Edit/3000.

You can also create Text documents in the Work Area, or as an additional
part of a message.

To create a text item:

   * At the Workarea > or MESSAGE > prompt, type:

            CREATE TEXT Return

You can write your messages with a different text editor. See
       "Choosing an Editor" .

   * At the Workarea > or MESSAGE > prompts, use the CONVERT command to
turn an HP Word or HP Slate document into a Text document. You
might do this if your terminal does not support HP Word, but you
need to edit an HP Word document you have received.

   * At the Workarea > or MESSAGE > prompt, include text from a file
outside HP Desk by typing COPY TEXT FROM followed by the file
name. See "Copying Items into and out of HP Desk" for
       details.

   * At the Workarea > or MESSAGE > prompts, include a text item from
the Filing Cabinet using the COPY FROM command.

   * Open a message in your In Tray or Out Tray, and use the COPY
command to place the text from the message in the Work Area.

Spell-Checking Text Documents

If you have HP Spell on your system you can check that your Text
documents contain no spelling mistakes.

To spell-check a Text document:

   * At an area prompt type SPELL followed by the subject or number of
the Text document, and press Return. For example:

            Workarea > SPELL 1 Return

   * At the MESSAGE > prompt type SPELL followed by the part number of
the Text document, then press Return. For example:

            MESSAGE > SPELL 2 Return
