HP Motif/iX System Administrator's Supplement
Product Requirements
This section lists all the hardware, software, and learning products that
you need in order to use HP Motif/iX.
The requirements described are as follows:
* software
* hardware
* compatibility
* network
* learning products
* X Window knowledge
Hardware
Here is a list of hardware requirements:
* a 900 Series HP 3000 System (for example, HP 3000 Series 949)
* X display monitor (for example, 300 Series or 400 Series HP 9000,
HP 700/X)
Software
The following software is required to use HP Motif/iX successfully:

* MPE/iX operating system Release 5.0 or later
* MPE/iX Developer's Kit
* MPE/iX NetIPC
* network services (NS)
* MPE/iX C compiler and C89 interface
* POSIX/iX header files[REV END]
* An X Window subsystem that includes the following:
* an X11-compatible display server executing on the X display
* a window manager such as OSF/Motif (TM) Window Manager
(mwm).
* hpterm terminal emulation program
* vt3k connectivity program
Network
You must network the systems mentioned above and install all the
necessary software on the appropriate computers. For example, you must
install the NS software before you can run vt3k to make a connection to
the HP 3000 host system.
Compatibility
The libraries (/usr/lib/Motif1.1/libXm.a, /usr/lib/libXt.a,
/usr/lib/libX11.a, /usr/lib/libMrm.a, /usr/lib/libUil.a) and header files
(/usr/include/Motif1.1 and /usr/include/X11R4) are source and application
programming interface (API) compatible with X11, Release 4 and OSF/Motif
1.1. Applications developed using these libraries can display on X
displays, including the HP 9000 systems and the HP 700/X terminals.

You should have access to the following:

* Using the X Window System learning product
X Window System knowledge
The information discussed in this learning product assumes knowledge of X
Window System administration tasks as well as fundamental operation of
the HP 3000. Specifically, it is understood that you already know the
following:
* basic HP 3000 operations
* logging on and logging off[REV BEG]
* directory structure including the hierarchical file system
(HFS)
* users, groups, and accounts and their relationships to
files and HFS directories and byte stream files[REV END]
* batch job creation and invocation
* logging in to an HP-UX system and activating an X Window System
display
