Displaying to an X terminal
When displaying to an X terminal, such as an HP 700/X, you must modify
the network configuration on the HP 3000.
The implication of this on the HP 3000 is that several changes must be
made so that the X client on the HP 3000 can connect to the server
process on the X display. Here is a list of changes that the system
manager of the HP 3000 must perform:
1. Take down the LAN.
2. Enable Ethernet.
3. Add an HP subnet mask such as 255.255.255.248 to limit unnecessary
network traffic.
4. Use the node management configurator (NMMGR) to enable searching
the directory for nodes by name.
5. Use NMMGR to add a device profile for each X terminal that will be
accessed. Use one as the terminal type.
6. Validate NETXPORT and DTS/LINK in NMMGR.
7. Bring up the LAN.
The first three modifications are necessary to enable Ethernet. The next
two adjustments are required so that the HP 3000 can determine the IP
address of the X terminal.
