TurboSTORE/XL II User's Guide
Unlabeled Tapes
At the beginning of each reel of a Store tape is the Store label and a
directory of all of the files stored on that tape. The directory
contains one entry for each file stored. Each directory entry contains
up to 32K of information such as the file's code, unique file
identification (UFID), size of the file, and so on. All of this
information is written to the Store tape prior to the first tape mark.
The file information for the files that are being backed up is written to
the tape after the second tape mark. The file information consists of a
header describing the data that follows; for example, a file label,
actual file data (up to 28K per block), or, in the case of online backup,
log data associated with a file. A tape mark always preceeds the
information that describes a new file.
At the end of the tape are three tape marks, a header label indicating
that the trailer follows, and a trailer label.
Figure C-1 illustrates the unlabeled tape format.
