Redoing Media Errors
When a media error occurs on a sequential or parallel device, and REDO
was specified for media error resolution, information is displayed on the
console.
Tape Errors
If a tape write error is encountered, a message is displayed indicating
where the error occurred. For example, STORESET=(*T1,*T2,*T3) is
requested and a tape error occurs on the device referenced by *T2 while
it is creating reel 2. A message similar to the following is displayed:
STORE ENCOUNTERED MEDIA WRITE ERROR ON LDEV #
MOUNT MEDIA # OF SET # ON LDEV #
where LDEV # is the device referenced by *T2. This means that the store
error recovery occurs on the same device where the error occurred.
Optical Disk Errors
If an optical disk write error is encountered, messages are displayed
indicating where the error occurred. For example, if MOSET=(101),(102)
is requested and a media error occurs on device 102, messages similar to
the following are displayed:
STORE ENCOUNTERED MEDIA WRITE ERROR ON LDEV 102
MOUNT MEDIA # OF SET # ON LDEV 102
STORE MARKING MEDIA BAD ON LDEV 102
where LDEV 102 is the DASS device where the error occurred.
You can determine which piece of media is bad by using the STATUS command
of the MOUTIL program. The status display indicates which piece of media
is bad by showing "THE MEDIA IS BAD" in the media name field (refer to
the Magneto-Optical Media Management User's Guide (36398-90001) for
further information on the MOUTIL program).[REV END]
