Changing the Blocking Factor of a Data Set
To change the blocking factor of a data set, use the CHANGE BLOCKFACTOR
command. In this section, the blocking factor is changed for the data
set INVENTORY. Before changing the blocking factor, the REVIEW BLOCKS
command output looks like this:
Fld Pth Entr Med Blk Blk Blk
Data Set Name Type Cnt Cnt Len Rec Capacity Fac Len Max
-----------------------------------------------------------------
INVENTORY D 7 4 24 40 510 15 481 1024 <---- *
*blocking factor to be changed
In the example below, the blocking factor for the detail data set
INVENTORY is changed from 15 to 12. The DBCPLUS program displays a
message confirming that the blocking factor is changed.
>change blockfactor inventory 12
Change of set capacity, block factor, and/or device class accepted.
>
Refer to "CHANGE BLOCKFACTOR" in chapter 10, "DBChange Plus Commands,"
for a detailed description of the command syntax and parameters.
NOTE The blocking factor must be a number that can be evenly divided
into the capacity. If you change the blocking factor to a number
that cannot be evenly divided into the capacity, DBChange Plus will
adjust the capacity to a multiple of the new blocking factor
closest to the current capacity.
If you want to verify that the blocking factor is changed, use the REVIEW
BLOCKS command as in the following example. You can see that the
blocking factor for the data set INVENTORY is now 12.
>review blocks inventory
