CATOPEN
NM and CM callable.
Opens an application message catalog that was formatted with the GENCAT
utility. CATOPEN returns a value that identifies the catalog and is used
by CATREAD and CATCLOSE.

Functional Return
catindex 32-bit signed integer (assigned functional return)
An internal value recognized by the CATREAD and
CATCLOSE intrinsics.
NOTE The functional return is not a file number.
Parameters
formaldesig character array (required)
Passes a string of ASCII characters that identify
the catalog file to the system. This string must
be terminated by an ASCII special character, it
does not accept "/", ".", ":", or "!" as
terminators.
formaldesig does not accept "/", ".", ":", or "!"
as terminators.
catstatus 16-bit unsigned integer array (required)
Returns two elements; the first element is the
error number, the second element is reserved and
always returns 0. The possible values of the first
element returned are:
Value Meaning
0 Successful
1 Open failed on catalog file
2 Could not access catalog file
3 File specified not a GENCAT formatted catalog
100 Internal message facility error
Operation Notes
The CATOPEN intrinsic may alter the condition code (CCODE).
