Performing System Operation Tasks
Removing and Returning System Devices
From time to time, it may be necessary to remove peripheral devices from,
and return devices to, the system. Use the DOWN and UP commands,
respectively, to do so.
To remove a device from system use
To remove a device from the system, type the DOWN command followed by the
LDEV number of the device. For example, to down LDEV 23, enter:
DOWN 23
CAUTION When a device is powered down, subsequent access to that device
can result in indefinite waiting, erroneous transfers, or other
incorrect operations. Often these failures occur with no
indication to the system operator or to the user. For these
reasons, use the DOWN command before a device is powered down
for removal. This commands does not apply to the console or to
disk drives.
To return a device for system use
To return a particular device to its normal function on the system, use
the UP command. For example, to bring LDEV 23 back up, enter:
UP 23
