Components of the Series 9x8LX and 9x8 Systems
The Series 9x8 systems are housed in small cabinets. Each small
rack-mount cabinet contains the system processor unit (SPU), a channel
input/output (CIO) expander, and the battery backup unit. The cabinet
can also contain various peripherals.
Brief descriptions of the components of Series 917LX through Series 967LX
system s are as follows:
* The SPU houses system cards (memory, peripheral, processor) and
the power suppl y.
* The Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) supplies power to memory
cards and selected devices in the event of a power failure.
* The disk drive is a nonremovable drive used to store data.
Several other disk drive models can be connected to the system.
* The tape drive is used initially to load the operating system.
Several tape d rives can be connected to the system.
* The operating system resides on the system disk once it has been
installed.
* The system console is the terminal device designated to send and
receive syste m messages.
* Several types of page printers and line printers can be connected
to the syste m.
