Chapter 11 Shutting Down the System System shutdown is the process of halting system activity in an orderly manner and stopping the computer operating system. A system shut does not involve turning off power to the computer hardware. If done properly, a shutdown preserves all system and user files and copying any spool files that await printing to tape.
