Controlling System Activity

Chapter 7 Managing Disk Files

Disk files are the principal means of permanent data storage on the HP
3000. The majority of disk storage is shared among all users on the
system and stored on devices known as system and nonsystem disks. Since
these disk drives are used as shared devices, and therefore not assigned
to users as are tape drives or printers, accessing disk files requires
little operator intervention. Your primary interaction with disk drives
will be in manipulating nonsystem volumes. Volume creation and
management is covered in the manual MPE XL Volume Management
(32650-90045). This section will briefly address the care and handling
of disk devices.
