Controlling System Activity
Chapter 3 Controlling Jobs and Sessions
A system operator, possessing OP capability, controls the system console
and is able to execute a specific set of commands which usually can be
issued only from the system console. A system manager's capabilities are
identified by the appellation SM. Managers of jobs and sessions are
responsible for maintaining the unique identity of system users and for
controlling system resources. In fulfilling these responsibilities,
system operators and managers perform these functions:
* Gather and maintain information on sessions and jobs, and monitor and
interpret system console messages that relate to sessions and jobs.
* Control system resources used in the execution of sessions and jobs.
* Use SYSGEN to configure system parameters that define session and job
activities.
* Communicate with system users via the system console and at session
logon via the welcome message.
