3-2.  POSITION 

A position describes the location in the WORK file of

 *  A line.

 *  A column in a line.

 *  A string.

 *  The WORK file pointer (EDIT/3000 monitors the edit cycle to determine
    where in the work file any modifications will occur).  See paragraph
    3-7.
