PREFACE
This publication is the reference manual for HP's High-Level Screen
Management Intrinsic Library (Hi-Li). Hi-Li comprises a group of twelve
intrinsics that facilitate the transfer of data between an application
and most HP terminals and data capture devices on the HP 3000 computer
system. Hi-Li provides the programmatic interface to terminals and
forms.
Hi-Li is intended to be used by programmers in any of the supported
languages, which include COBOL, FORTRAN, and Pascal. The manual is
organized to start with a discussion of how Hi-Li works, followed by
detailed information about each intrinsic and a description of each data
transfer method. The appendices contain error messages, sample programs,
and information on supported terminals.
In order to use Hi-Li effectively, you should be familiar with FORMSPEC,
the VPLUS/V forms file designer. Hi-Li uses forms created in FORMSPEC.
You may also need the manual for the programming language in which you
are coding. The manuals in the following list contain all the
information you might need as a supplement to this manual:
* HP Data Entry and Forms Management System (VPLUS/V) Reference Manual
(32209-90001)
* MPE Commands Reference Manual (30000-90009)
* MPE Intrinsics Reference Manual (30000-90010)
* MPE Software Pocket Guide (30000-90049)
* Using Files (30000-90102)
* Native Language Support Reference Manual (32414-90001)
You may also refer to the reference manual for the programming language
you are using, and the reference manual for your terminal. s
