Data Definition Clause Generation

Generation of the data description clauses for an element is dependent on
the values that are assigned to the attributes of an element's entity or
relationship occurrences, as well as other conditions. The following
list describes each clause that SDCDE generates, the attributes or
conditions required to create it, and any restrictions to be considered.
(There are some forms of the following clauses that are valid for COBOL,
but not generated by SDCDE due to insufficient information.)

The clauses are listed in order of their precedence. This precedence
affects the order in which each clause appears in an element's data
description as well as the order in which any conflicts will be resolved.

NOTE The following clause syntax is presented in long form. SDCDE offers two modes; long or abbreviated clauses. For example, the long form of the PICTURE clause is: PICTURE IS EDIT-MASK the abbreviated form is: PIC EDIT-MASK This option is set in the message catalog.
