Upshifting and Character Types The upshift and character type tables used at any given time always reflect the current language. These tables are retrieved whenever the language is changed. Since any previously entered data is unchanged and remains in the format in which it was entered, type U data items are not "re-upshifted" to reflect different language-particular upshift requirements if the language changes. However, any new data is upshifted as required and stored in the format appropriate to the specified language.
