HP Data Entry and Forms Management System (VPLUS/V)
USING THE MANUAL
This manual may be useful to three different types of user:
Forms Designer who designs the forms to be displayed, determines the
order in which forms are displayed, and specifies any
editing or special processing to be performed on data
entered through the forms.
Applications who designs and codes the application that uses data
Programmer entered through the FORMSPEC forms, or displays data on
these forms.
Application who enters data on the forms defined with FORMSPEC for
User processing by an application or by ENTRY.
Forms Designer
The forms designer who uses FORMSPEC to design forms should read Sections
3 and 4. These sections describe simple and advanced forms design with
FORMSPEC. If designing forms in a native language other than the default
(NATIVE-3000), the forms designer should refer to Section 8 for
information on Native Language Support. The forms designer may also have
the responsibility for reformatting the data entered through the forms.
If so, the forms designer should also read Section 5, which describes how
to specify reformatting with REFSPEC. Unless the forms designer is also
the applications programmer, the forms designer can skip Sections 2, 6,
and 7.
Applications Programmer
The first thing the applications programmer should determine is whether
ENTRY, the data entry program provided with VPLUS/V, fulfills the user's
application needs, either as is or with a few modifications. Using ENTRY
from the user's point of view is described in Section 2.
If ENTRY is not suitable, the applications programmer should read Section
6 that describes the VPLUS/V intrinsics callable from any of the
supported programming languages listed in Appendix A . If using one of
the special interface programming languages, the applications programmer
should refer to the reference manual for that language.
VPLUS/V Native Language Support enables an application programmer to
create interactive applications which reflect native language numeric and
date conventions in more than a dozen supported languages. For
information on using VPLUS/V with Native Language Support, the
applications programmer should refer to Section 8.
Since FORMSPEC provides editing and processing capabilities, the
applications programmer should study FORMSPEC in order to determine how
to divide the processing responsibilities between FORMSPEC and the
application. Interactive FORMSPEC is described in Sections 3 and 4;
batch mode FORMSPEC is described in Section 7.
The applications programmer should also read Section 5 that describes the
specifications for reformatting data entered through an application or
ENTRY. Reformatting may provide a way to adapt entered data to an
existing application.
Application User
The application user, or user, is the person who actually enters data
into the forms designed with FORMSPEC and displayed by the application.
If the applications programmer has chosen to use ENTRY, then Section 2,
which describes how to enter data to be processed by ENTRY, can be used
as an instruction guide for users (or for their trainer).
If ENTRY has been modified, the applications programmer should modify
Section 2 to reflect the changes.
If ENTRY is not used, Section 2 should not be used. Instead, the
applications programmer should provide a similar guide that explains how
to:
* Log on and off the HP 3000.
* Use the terminal keys, especially the function keys.
* Enter and modify data.
* Run REFORMAT (if applicable).
