Managing HP X.400 Administrator's Guide

x4agelog

Manage growth of X.400 log files.

Syntax
________________________________________________________________________
|x4agelog [number] |
________________________________________________________________________

Parameters

number Number of old log files to keep.

                    Default: 1.

Description

The x4agelog command ages the current X.400 log files by saving the logs
into other files. The X.400 log files reside in the directory
/usr/spool/x400/log and /usr/spool/x400/log/dslog.

The X.400 log files may include the MTA, RTS, x4xfer, encoder, decoder,
dslog, and/or x4mailer log files. For each X.400 log file except the
dslog file, the most current logs are kept by renaming the log files to
other names like logfile.0, logfile.1, etc. For the dslog file, the last
200 entries are kept. Old log files reside in the same directory.

The x4agelog command should be executed on a regular basis to prevent the
log files from becoming too large. You can execute this command at
specified time intervals by using the HP-UX utility, crontab. Refer to
the HP-UX Reference Manual Vol. 1: Section 1, 1M and 9 for further
information.

Example

The following is an example of aging log files. In this example, the
command x4agelog 2 is run once a week for four weeks.
