Installing and Configuring HP X.400 Administrator's Guide
Starting x4admin
This section describes the terminal types supported by x4admin, how to
start x4admin, the configuration menu map, the definition of a window,
how to select items, how to enter data, and how to confirm a message.
x4admin (the X.400 configuration program) is menu-driven. Refer to the
"Configuration Menu Map" section in this chapter for a menumap that gives
you an overview of all the configuration menus and how to easily get from
one menu to another menu.
Terminal Types
x4admin supports the following types of terminals:
* 80 x 24 HP term0 (either a standard HP terminal or an 80 x 24
hpterm X window) and
* 128 x 46 or 128 x 49 ite bitmapped graphic displays.
* DEC VT100 (DEC VT100 is a product of Digital Equipment
Corporation.) series terminals or emulators (such as xterm). The
terminal or emulator must be in 80 column mode. If xterm is used,
the xterm window must be 80 x 24 characters.
x4admin determines which video configuration file to use from the TERM
environment variable. If the TERM environment variable is not set or is
not recognized by x4admin, x4admin uses the TERM type hp. In either
case, a warning message displays.
If you are using a terminal type of vt100, the function key labels do not
appear on your screen and the function keys do not work. See the "VT100
Function Keys" section of this chapter for more information on how to
perform actions shown on a function key that appears on the screen shown
in this manual.
For a list of TERM settings supported, refer to Appendix B of this
manual.
Getting Started
To access the X.400 configuration program, log on to the system as the
user x400 or root (all lower case), and type at the prompt,
/usr/lib/x400/x4admin
x4admin checks for the following:
* user and group x400 and user hpdesk, and
* customized X.400 files.
If the user and group x400 and user hpdesk are not configured correctly,
a warning message displays. If you are logged on as root, the sam menu
appears. If you are not logged on as root, x4admin terminates. You
must log on as root and run sam.
If the X.400 files are not customized, a procedure checks for the initial
configuration files installed by /etc/update. If the initial files are
present and there are no existing configuration files, the initial files
are copied to the correct locations. If existing configuration files
exist, you are asked if you want the existing configuration files
overwritten. When the configuration files are in place, all of the X.400
files are given the correct owner and group. Finally, the customization
is verified.
When these checks are completed, the X.400 Main Menu displays.

To begin the configuration process, select CONFIGURATION on the X.400
Main Menu to display the Configure X.400 Menu.
Figure 5-2. Configuration Menu
If you are configuring X.400 for the first time, you should proceed with
the configuration in the following sequence:
1. Configure the local MTA.
2. Configure the adjacent MTAs.
3. Configure HP X.400/HP Desk Nodes if you are using HP X.400 with HP
Desk.
4. Configure the Sendmail connection if you are using mailx or elm
with X.400.
5. Configure the OpenMail connection if you are using HP OpenMail
with X.400.
6. Configure API clients if you are using the HP X.400 API.
7. Configure routes to adjacent MTAs. Routes provide the local MTA
the information needed to transfer or relay messages to the
appropriate adjacent MTA.
8. Configure links for alternate routing if desired.
9. Configure, if desired, user groups to identify X.400 functionality
supported by a user group, control users from sending or receiving
messages, or enable address translation.
10. Activate the new configuration when you wish the new configuration
to take effect.
NOTE The X.400 configuration information for X.400 is in the .conf files
in the directory /usr/lib/x400. The X.400 components use the
configuration information in these files.
When you press the Perform Task key in a configuration screen,
changes made to the X.400 configuration are written to temporary
files, .conf.new files. Any changes you make in x4admin are made
to these .conf.new files, not to the .conf files.
When you enable the configuration in x4admin, the .conf.new files
are copied to the .conf files, and the .conf.new files are deleted.
If you exit x4admin without enabling the configuration, you are
asked to save or delete the .conf.new files. If you save the
files, the next time you run x4admin and enter the Configure X.400
Menu, you are warned that the configuration information used is the
information in the .conf.new files, not the .conf files being used
by the X.400 components.
To configure each of the above configurable items, select the applicable
item on the Configure X.400 Menu.
If you made changes and did not enable the configuration, when you hit
the Previous Menu key, a message reminding you to enable the
configuration is displayed. Press the Save & Exit key to save the
.conf.new files and exit to the X.400 Main Menu. Press the Delete & Exit
key to delete the .conf.new files and exit to the X.400 Main Menu. Press
the Cancel Exit key to return to the Configure X.400 Menu.

Windows.
A windowis a screen that overlays a portion of the menu. Windows are
used to display an action menu, a confirmation message, a data entry
screen, and help information. When a window is displayed, you may not
perform operations on the underlying menu or windows.
Standard Function Keys.
You use the function keys at the bottom of the screen to perform an
action. The standard function keys and their functions are:
Action Menu
Displays a window of available actions for the
screen.
Cancel
Aborts the current operation when the confirmation
message appears on the screen.
Cancel Exit
Returns you to the screen or menu from an exit
confirmation window.
Confirm
Confirms the confirmation message appearing on the
screen.
Delete & Exit
Deletes any temporary configuration files before
exiting the Configuration Exit Reminder window.
Done

Exits the screen or menu in an exit confirmation
window.
Exit Menu
Exits menu.
Exit Task
Exits screen without saving any entered
information.
Exit Window
Exits data entry window.

Select Item key is present; or it moves the cursor
to the next field.
Save & Exit
Saves any temporary configuration files before
exiting the Configuration Exit Reminder window.
Select Item

VT100 Function Keys.
If you are using a terminal type of vt100, in order to perform actions
that appear on the function keys shown on the screens in this manual, use
the following keystrokes: CTRL-f number where number is the function
key number. For instance, on the X.400 Main Menu F8 is used to exit the
x4admin program. If you are using a terminal type of vt100, hit CTRL-f
8.
The following is a list of the keystrokes and their associated action.
Not all function keys are used by x4admin.
CTRL-f 1 Cancel Exit, Help.
CTRL-f 4 Confirm, Done, Perform Task, Select Item.
CTRL-f 5 Action Menu.
CTRL-f 6 Delete & Exit (Configuration Exit Reminder window
only), Prev Links (X.400 Links screen only).
CTRL-f 7 Next Links (X.400 Links screen only).
CTRL-f 8 Cancel, Exit, Exit x4admin, Exit Help, Exit Menu,
Exit Task, Exit Window, Previous Menu, Save & Exit
(Configuration Exit Reminder window only).
Selecting Items on a Menu or Action Menu.
When a screen is displayed, you can identify it as a menu from its title.
You can easily select items on a menu or action menu in the following
ways:
* Enter the first letter of the item. If the first letter is not
unique, enter the first two letters. For example, if STARTUP and
SHUTDOWN are menu items, you must enter the first two characters
of the item to differentiate between the two selections, or
* Tab to the item you want to select and press the Select Item or
Return key.
NOTE Some entries cannot be displayed on a screen due to the lack of
space. "^"and "v" marks appear at the top and bottom of the screen
indicating that more entries exist. Press the Next key to scroll
forward for additional entries. Press the Previous key to scroll
backward for previous entries.
Selecting Items on a Screen.
When a screen is displayed, you can identify it as a screen because its
title does not identify it as a menu. You select an item on a screen in
the following way:
* Tab to the item you want to select and press the Select Item or
Return key.
Entering Data on a Screen.
To enter data on a screen,
* Tab to the field and enter the data and press the Perform Task or
Done key.
Confirming Messages.
Confirm messages by pressing the space bar.
