Netware 3.11 for the HP 3000 Installing and Administering Guide
1. Quick Configuration
When you choose 1. Quick Configuration, the Quick Config Parameters
screen is displayed.
Figure 10-3. Quick Config Parameters
Server Name
This is the name used in all configuration and address references to the
NetWare file server. Change the server name parameter to change the name
of the file server. Each reference to the file server in the network
setup also must be changed when you change this parameter. Specify a
name up to 40 characters.
Internal Network Number
This parameter specifies the unique network number for the internal
network. Enter a string representing a hexadecimal number in the range
of 0x0-0xF, non-inclusive (00000001-FFFFFFFE). Network addresses are used
by NetWare to set apart networks (cabling systems).
LAN#
This specifies the number of the LAN to which the following configuration
information applies. For example, LAN 1 will use a different
configuration than LAN 2.
External Network Number.
The external network number specifies a unique number designating the
address for the network. The external network number can be up to eight
hexadecimal numbers in length. The default external network number is
00000002.
If you have other NetWare file servers and want the NetWare for the HP
3000 file server on the same LAN, make sure that all the NetWare file
servers have the same external network number.
Each board (LAN card) is considered a separate network and you must
assign an external network number to each one accessible by NetWare
clients.
Device Name.
This is the adapter device name which specifies the path of the device
driver file in the host's device directory.
The device name is a file name in the following format:
/dev/dlpi.linkname
where the linkname corresponds to the link name configured in NMMGR. The
device file name must be entered in all lowercase characters. See
Chapter 1 under the section, Verify Link Configuration, for information
on verifying and creating a device name using the mknod command.
Frame Type.
The frame type specifies the type of packet header that the device driver
uses. The default is Ethernet 802.3. This field toggles when you press
the space bar.
For a LAN network you can use Ethernet 802.3, Ethernet II, or Ethernet
802.2 frame type. For a token-ring network, use the token-ring frame
type.
