Netware 3.11 for the HP 3000 Installing and Administering Guide
Changes from Netware 3.01B to 3.11
The changes from NetWare version 3.01B to 3.11 are summarized below.
If you have NetWare 3.01B, review Chapter 5, Migrate NetWare Version
3.01B to 3.11, for pre-installation, installation and migration
procedures.
New Features
* The PSERVER NetWare utility has been added to manage print
services on the host.
* The NetWare/iX product runs over the open file system (POSIX) to
assist with host file integration.
* A quick configuration option has been added to SCONSOLE.
* Support for 802.2 frame type.
Default Configuration
This version, NetWare 3.11A, defaults to Ethernet 802.3 frame type.
Native NetWare 3.11 servers default to Ethernet 802.3. Native NetWare
4.01 servers, VLM clients, and Native Netware 3.12, default to 802.2
frame type. Future releases of NetWare for UNIX (and NetWare/iX) are
expected to default to 802.2 for consistency with Novell clients and
servers.
The default file server name for this release is NWIX_DEFAULT.
Migration Utility
A migration utility (MIGRATE) is provided to help you migrate your
bindery and files. Before using the tool, The configuration files must
be migrated using SCONSOLE. See Chapter 5, Migrate NetWare Version 3.01B
to 3.11, for more information.
NetWare Versions
This version of NetWare on the HP 3000 is based on Novell's NetWare for
UNIX version 3.11A, plus 3.11B patches. It is comparable to Novell's
Native NetWare release version 3.12.
Features not Included.
* The NetBIOS Application Program Interface (API) is not supported.
PC applications labeled as NetBIOS compatible are not supported on
NetWare/iX.
* Routing IPX packets from NetWare networks over TCP/IP networks
using the IP tunneling feature is not supported.
* Burst mode (formerly called packet burst) is not supported.
* Hybrid user facility is not supported. See Chapter 7, Advanced
Configuration for information on file integration between the
NetWare file system and MPE.
* Macintosh, OS/2, and Windows 95 clients are not supported.
* NetWare Virtual Terminal (NVT) is not supported. For virtual
terminal services, use the HP PC NS/ARPA Services (J2246A) product
and HP AdvanceLink (D2104C) products, or other third party
terminal emulation products.
* NetWare loadable modules (NLMs) used on Native NetWare servers are
not supported.
Release information
The latest release information, if any, is contained in a readme file.
After installing NetWare, log into the system as manager.sys, netware and
read or print the file: README.NETWARE.SYS.
New Installation of NetWare
These instructions assume you are installing NetWare for the first time.
If you are migrating from NetWare version 3.01B to 3.11, go to Chapter 5
for installation and migration procedures.
The NetWare product is installed using the standard AUTOINST program.
1. Before you install, do a complete system backup.
2. Follow the AUTOINST instructions provided with your MPE/iX release
(MPE/ iX Installation, Update, and Add-on Manual part number
36123-90001).
Verify Installation.
After using AUTOINST, verify that the product installed correctly:
1. From the MPE prompt, log into the system:
:hello manager.sys
2. Check the installation job output. The jobname is I002020B and is
owned by manager.sys. To determine the SPOOLID, at the MPE prompt
type :
:listspf @;seleq=[jobname=I002020b]
3. Print out the job install output using the SPOOLID as the file ID
in the Onnnn.OUT.HPSPOOL file. Check the end of the file for the
successful completion information. The message contains the
statement:
--Autoinstall of NetWare/iX Complete
4. To verify the product modules, run:
:nmmaint,71 or nw versions
